This list of employees shows David Waghorn’s date of birth as well as date of commencement of employment by the India Office.

Correspondence (2) pension
This correspondence shows David’s superiors trying to get the highest level of pension for him. From this correspondence we learn that David had been working for over 25 years as contract labour in the engineering department before being taken on to the staff. It also gives us an insight into the type of man he was.

Correspondence (3): patent
This is the only evidence we have for David, the Inventor. He designed a copying press which he was hoping to patent. Research at the patent office website has unfortunately failed to find any reference to it.

Correspondence (4): letter from the archivist of the Drapers’ Company
This letter has enabled us to fill in much of David’s last years. Prompted by Den’s memory of visiting his grandfather, the archivist has given us useful information, including news of his death.
