Census results for Harriet Waghorn né Pedley
1841 Census
This census took place on the night of 6th June 1841. Forms were issued earlier to each household and collected on 7th. If no one in the household could write the enumerator would help. The pages we see are from books into which the information was copied by the enumerators. In it are the names, status, age, occupation and place of birth of everyone who was at that address on that night, including visitors. The ages up to 15 were accurately recorded, ages above 15 were rounded to the nearest 5.
This information is invaluable to us in building a picture of the lives of our antecedents, but there are things to be wary of: the enumerator may have miscopied the spellings of names, or they may have been misspelt by the householder; the writing is sometimes difficult to decipher; names are sometimes written in full, other times shortened, alternative spellings used, second names written in full or as initials, and the order of multiple forenames are sometimes altered. For James Waghorn the address is difficult to decipher, is it Epley Place? Or Esley? Or Eley? It actually is Ely Place, misspelt and poorly written!
A slash / indicates the end of each household in a building.

The completed collection contains detailed information on each individual who spent the night in individual households including name, relationship to the head of the family, marital status, age at last birthday, gender, occupation, and birthplace.
